Textual Analysis

Image result for Chanel Advert

1) What type of text is it?
This image is an advert for the very well known French company, 'Chanel', which is a fragrance, fashion and makeup brand. However, this advert in particular focuses on the makeup aspect of the brand.

2) How do you know? What are the key conventions that allowed you to identify the text?
I know this brand is promoting their makeup line, in particular their lipstick, because they included a bright red lipstick in the corner of the picture which is very noticeable. Also, the main part of the image which is the model, all of her accessories or clothing pieces are black with gold accents, however, the part that stands out the most on the model is he bright red lipstick which corresponds to the lipstick tube in the corner.

3) In your opinion, who is the target audience for this media text?
I believe the target audience for the media text is women, aged 20 and over, who are more likely to buy expensive makeup as 'Chanel' is a very high end brand. This media text could also be aiming at women who dress elegantly and posh as the model in the advert is dressed very elegantly from what I can see.

4) How would this audience access the text? E.g. where/when would they consume it? Using what device?
This media text can be found many places as 'Chanel' is a very well known brand. Some examples of places where this image can be found is online, in 'Chanel' stores, billboards and magazines.

5) What values, ideologies and beliefs in society are reinforced or challenged in this media text?
In the media text, their main target audience is women; that being said, there is a lot of pressure on women, especially in todays society, to look their best at all time. This image could be contributing to those ideologies as the woman in the image is wearing elegant clothes with hints of gold, a big pair of sunglasses and very feminine makeup. Some women may feel the need to go out of their way to buy this product just so they can look similar to the woman in the image.
