MIGRAIN: Reading an image

1) Analyse this RBK 50 Cent advert using the key media language you learned today: denotation, connotation, colour, pose, framing, composition, size, type of shot, subject matter, setting, lighting. This advert consists of two images; the first one being an image of a black male rapper, '50 Cent' who is wearing a hat slanted to the side, a chain and a vest top, which are items that you would typically associate with 'gangsters' and criminals. The message that Reebok are trying to denote to the audience with the use the quote is that there is no second chance, so give everyday 100% because there may not be a tomorrow. Also that they are trying to help people who are involved in gangs, turn their life around and make a better life for themselves. However, the audience can connate this advert completely differently; the use of a rapper who has previously been associated with crime and the second image of fingerprints could suggest to the audience that Reebok

1) What type of text is it? This image is an advert for the very well known French company, 'Chanel', which is a fragrance, fashion and makeup brand. However, this advert in particular focuses on the makeup aspect of the brand. 2) How do you know? What are the key conventions that allowed you to identify the text? I know this brand is promoting their makeup line, in particular their lipstick, because they included a bright red lipstick in the corner of the picture which is very noticeable. Also, the main part of the image which is the model, all of her accessories or clothing pieces are black with gold accents, however, the part that stands out the most on the model is he bright red lipstick which corresponds to the lipstick tube in the corner.  3) In your opinion, who is the target audience for this media text? I believe the target audience for the media text is women, aged 20 and over, who are more likely to buy expensive makeup as 'Chanel' is
